Commonly known as Yellow-breasted Flowerpecker or Sepah Bunga Dada Kuning in Malay, Prionochilus maculatus is a species of bird belongs to the Dicaeidae family. It is a small-sized bird measuring around 9.5 cm in length. This bird has a short tail, orange-rufous crown, olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts with olive-green streaks on sides of the throat and upper flanks. It feeds on variety of small berries, insects and seeds and utters a monotonous sound of ‘chwit-chwit’ (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
The Yellow-breasted Flowerpecker is widely distributed across the Sundaland region ranging from Myanmar through Peninsular Malaysia extending to Sumatra and Borneo. In Peninsular Malaysia, this species inhabits the middle and lower storey of primary and secondary lowland forest. It can also be seen along forest trails and forest edges (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012). Whereas in Borneo, P. maculatus is a common resident in all types of forest from the lowland to the hills (Phillips, 2014).
