Chrysophlegma miniaceum is commonly known as Banded Woodpecker or Belatuk Merah in Malay. It is a species of bird in the Picidae family that can grow up to 25 cm in length. Banded Woodpecker is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand, where it can be found in the lowland forests, plantations, mangroves and scattered trees in rural areas. This woodpecker feeds mostly on ants and other insects. The Banded Woodpecker has a red crest with yellow tips, red wings, dull greenish mantle with pale wavy barrings together with chestnut underparts marked with whitish barrings. Hemicircus concretus is a small crested and short-tailed woodpecker measuring around 13 cm long and is normally known as the grey-and-buff woodpecker. It has black upperparts with pale yellowish scale and white rump. Its head and underparts are greyish, while the bill is dark grey. To differentiate between both sexes, the male woodpecker has a diagnostic red crown. This species occurs from Myanmar to Malay Peninsula and the Greater Sundas and is locally common in lowlands and hilly primary and secondary forests and plantations. Usually, the grey-and-buff woodpecker gleans for insects in pairs.
