LIGHT AND MOTION PUTRAJAYA (28 DEC 2018 – 31 DEC 2018)

LAMPU Putrajaya, or known as Light and Motion Putrajaya (LAMPU) Festival has become a regular year-end event for the past seven years and a highlight of Putrajaya's events calendar.  The main attraction is the spectacular projection mapping show which, using state-of-the-art technology, brings the entire facade of the imposing Palace of Justice building to life with an exciting and colourful light imagery and sounds.

On 30 December 2018, I took my family for a trip to Putrajaya to view the LAMPU 2018 event.  Upon arriving to the site, I was greeted by a VIP from Perbadanan Putrajaya who had graciously invited me & my family to enter into the VIP area to view the show. There were bean bags where visitors can lie down and rest while watching the spectacular light show.

I had used my SONY α7RIII with SEL1635GM lens, 16mm, 1/13 sec, f/2.8, ISO 1600.  Here are some of the images captured during LAMPU 2018.

NiSi Sunrise Photography Workshop Dec 2018, Putrajaya

25/12/2018

Sunrise at Masjid Putra this morning during my first outing with Lee Photo Sdn Bhd as NiSi brand ambassador. Another great milestone in my photography journey.  Looking forward for more exciting outings and collaborations with Lee Photo.

It was quite a turn out with about 50 participants, from about 70 participants who signed up. At least half were there at 6:20am. We finished shooting around 9:00am and proceed for breakfast at Putrajaya Lake Club. We all adjourned by 10:15am.

The benefits of using the NiSi Filter System are:
  1. NiSi filters are made of high definition Optical Glass and feature double sided Nano Coating technology, where you can easily wipe off water drops and dust from the filter surface;
  2. NiSi IR technology enables capture of true to life vibrant color (no colour casting);
  3. NiSi ND filters comes with foam gasket to eliminate any light leaks from the sides of the filter system; and
  4. The new NiSi V5 Pro filter holder has the slots well spaced so that sliding in the filters will not require too much force.
  5. The V5 Pro filter holder locking mechanism ensures that the filter ring adapter stays in place, unlike some other 100mm filter holders out there.

I've previously used several brands prior to using NiSi filters and I must say that NiSi is the way to go for me.  If you are looking to own this brilliant filter system, please do not hesitate to drop me an email at nurismailphotography@gmail.com.

My special thanks to Lee Photo Sdn Bhd for arranging this outing and sincere thanks to everybody who made it this morning.  Till next time, have a great holiday everybody!

This was shot my SONY α7SII with SEL1635GM lens, 16mm, f/8, ISO 400, where I used the NiSi V5 Pro holder + NiSi Landscape CPL + NiSi GND .9 Soft filters.  This is part of my timelapse sequence.

This was shot my SONY α7RIII with Laowa 12mm lens, 1/30 sec, ISO 400, where I used the NiSi Laowa holder + NiSi Landscape CPL + NiSi Reverse GND .6 filters.  You will get some vignetting when using the NiSi CPL, but this can be easily corrected in post processing.

Iceland Photography Adventure 2018 (10.09.2018 - 20.09.2018)

The Trip

Iceland...the Land of Fire and Ice.  It's every landscape photographer's dream to go there at least once in their lifetime.  I've always thought of Iceland as ultimate paradise for landscape photographers where you have  opportunity to photograph countless waterfalls, mountains, fjords, volcanoes, and last but not least, the elusive Aurora Borealis.

The trip was meticulously planned back in July 2017.  Several itinerary options were carefully planned to visit as many locations as possible in the whole of Iceland.  To maximize our experience, I've roped in the services of a travel agent who is very familiar with Iceland.  Hours of research was done through website information and sharing of experiences from friends who have been to Iceland, to ensure success of this trip.  The trip date was selected to capitalize on the three public holidays during that period.

This is my 4th photography trip that I have successfully arranged, after Photography Trip to South Island New Zealand in August 2016 (7 participants), Photography Trip to Bromo, East Java, Indonesia in April 2018 (11 participants) and Family-cum-Photography Trip to North Island, New Zealand in August 2018.

This was the poster for the trip, and advertisement was only to a closed group of photographers.

The trip's logo was designed by El'Arief Mohd Khair, one of my New Zealand 2016's participants.

The logo was also embroidered on our trip's T-shirt for the participants to use during the trip.

    • Adequate SD cards & batteries;
    • Rain cover for camera (recommended);

  • Understand the workings and settings of your cameras and lenses before arriving in Iceland. If need be, download a PDF copy of your camera's manual onto your smartphones for ease of reference.

  • You are responsible to bring your own medications;
  • Packed food items (well packed).

Road trip in Iceland tips:
  • Left hand drive! Always remember that!
  • Drive during daytime, as much as possible.  Safest due to unfamiliar roads and animals crossing.  Plus the views are awesome!
  • Roads are unforgiving (no emergency lanes, only at dedicated locations).
  • Road types (paved, unpaved & gravel (F-roads)). Only 4WD allowed on the F-roads.
  • Get a good road map.  I've bought the “International Photographer” road map for EUR29 (now on sale for less than EUR18.96!).
  • Install “Here We Go” apps (benefit of having offline maps).  Research and download all locations before arriving in Iceland.
  • Do your research on the photography locations, thoroughly and browse for sample images from the internet, if you decide not to go with anybody who has organized a trip to Iceland before. :-)
  • Install apps on your smartphones for up-to-date Aurora Borealis tracking.
  • Local Iceland meteorological agency online for up-to-date weather conditions: Icelandic Met Office.
  • Visit Europe's Aurora Service website for more info.
  • If you are travelling in winter, always check the road conditions before you proceed to drive. You can visit www.road.is and https://safetravel.is/
  • If you're going in summer, best to make your accommodation bookings before arriving in Iceland.  Alternatively, you can rent a campervan.
