Micropternus brachyurus, commonly known as Rufous woodpecker or Belatuk biji nangka (Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012) in Malay is a species of birds belongs to the Picidae (Woodpeckers) family. This woodpecker has a medium-sized body measuring about 25 cm in length (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). It also has a short black bill and rufous plumages with black bar on its upperparts. Males are differ from females by red patch under its eyes. They produce a sharp and rapid descending voice ‘kwee-kwee-kwee-kwee’. In Peninsular Malaysia, the Rufous woodpecker can be found in lowland rainforest up to 1,050 m above sea level (Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012). It feeds mainly on ants. It is found in Southeast Asia. It is short-billed, foraging in pairs on small insects, particularly ants and termites, in scrub, evergreen , and deciduous forests and is noted for building its nest within the carton nests of arboreal ants in the genus Crematogaster. The crested goshawk is a small to medium-sized raptors which measured about 40 cm in length (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). Its tail is long and widely spread during the flight. The upperparts of the male are covered with dark brown plumages, whereas the underparts are white with brownish bars on its belly. The female hawk has the same features as the male but with browner head. This species is found throughout the Oriental region and can be found in the lowland forest habitat in Peninsular Malaysia. It resides on the canopies of tall forest trees. During flight, its streaked breast and belly barrings are clearly visible. This bird is usually silent but sometimes produce a high-pitched 'keeee' sound. Its diets include small birds. [Source: MyBIS].
