Halcyon coromanda or the ruddy kingfisher is a bird species belonging to the Alcedinidae family. This species has a very large, bright red bill and equally red legs. The body is rust red with white plumage at the rump generally deepening to purple at the tail. The male birds are brighter in plumage than the female. Like other kingfishers, ruddy kingfishers generally feeds on fish, crustaceans, and large insects, though in areas with less running water, they are known to take frogs and other amphibians. This kingfisher is listed as Least Concern under the IUCN Red List (BirdLife International 2016).
